Dundee Rovers 1 Montrose Youth U13,s 7

Montrose traveled with a depleted squad to play a tricky Rovers team at Kirkton. Montrose made a few changes to the side due to missing players and injuries but started brightly carving open the Rovers defence in the opening exchanges. Rovers came close to opening the scoring 10 minutes into the game when a good move ended when Findlater brought off a terrific save from a forwards shot from 15 yards to keep Montrose in the game. Shortly afterwards Worthington played the ball infield to Brown and his through ball was met by Hadden who lobbed the keeper from 20 yards to put Montrose in front.
From the kick off Montrose scored again when Smith dispossessed a Rovers player and laid the ball off for Morton to shoot into the bottom corner of the net.
Montrose were playing some great football now, with plenty of movement off the ball and some good passing had the Rovers team arguing between themselves.
Roberton was unlucky when the keeper turned his shot round the post. From the resulting Morton corner McLaren rose above the defence to head home.
Two minutes before half time another brilliant move between Cuthill, Beattie, Robertson and Morton ended with McLaren glancing the ball just past the post.
Kemp then put Montrose 4-0 up 5 minutes into the second half when he shot home after a goalmouth scramble. Montrose continued to dominate and were rewarded when Browne sprinted with a defender onto a Brown through ball, won the tackle with the keeper and fired into the empty net. Three minutes later, Hadden went past a couple of defenders and got to the bye line where he cut the ball back for Kemp to turn and Volley past the keeper. Montrose added a seventh near the end after McLaren found Morton with a cross-field pass, Morton steadied himself and hammered the ball into the top corner. In the final minute Rovers were awarded a penalty for a push inside the box, Findlater saved the spot kick but was unable to prevent them scoring from the follow up.
This was a great team performance with everyone putting in a hard shift, combined with sharp passing, good off the ball movement and solid defending making it a pleasure to watch.
Squad - Findlater, Beattie, Cuthill, Brown, Worthington, Morton, McLaren, Dalgarno, Smith, Hadden, Robertson, Kemp, Browne.

MONTROSE YOUTH FC UNDER 13's 25 DAWSON COLTS 1

Montrose took only two minutes to open the scoring when Robertson turned a defender from a throw in and slid the ball through to Findlater to score from the edge of the 18 yard box. Findlater scored again when he collected the ball 40 yards out and ran at the defence, the ball came back off a defender to him and he shot into the bottom corner. Milne found space to collect a Brown throw in, turned and run in on goal, drew the keeper out and placed the ball past him and in off the post. Fifteen minutes onto the game Montrose added a forth when Brown played the ball over the defence for Fullerton to control and shoot into the top corner. Dawson pulled a goal back when some slack defending allowed their forward to control a pass and sidefoot home. Dawson then came more into the game after the goal for a brief period until Roberson collected a Cuthill pass beat two defenders and got to the byline where he squared the ball, only for one of the Dawson defenders to miss hit his clearance into his own net. Smith played a one two with Hadden and shot into the top corner to take the score to 6-1. Smith scored again five minutes later when he scored from 18 yards. McLaren and Beattie combined to set up Robertson who again got down the line and squared back only for the same defender to get back and score his second own goal. Twenty five minutes in and Montrose took their tally to nine when Robertson's misplaced pass broke off a defender for Findlater to shoot low into the net. A great move involving most of the midfield ended with McLaren sliding the ball through for Fullerton to score from an acute angle.
Another own goal brought the score to 11-1, and then Hadden scored from a Smith pass just before half time to take the score to twelve.
The second half had only started when Montrose scored again when Findlater controlled a bad kick out from the keeper and scored with a half volley. Findlater scored again when he was allowed time to control a corner and shoot home. Cuthill then scored after being set up by Milne to take the score to 15-1. Cuthill scored again when he hammered the ball into the top corner after a miskicked clearance fell to him. Cuthill completed his hat trick when he volleyed home a Hadden cross. Brown then added to the goal scoring when he finished from a bad goal kick. Robertson scored a well deserved goal after body checking a defender off the ball and sidefooted into the bottom corner. Brown scored to make it 20-1 after Kemp brought down the ball from a corner and laid the ball back to him. Fullerton scored after the keeper had parried a vicious Robertson shot Robertson found Smith unmarked at the edge of the box with his corner kick, Smith brought the ball under control and shot passed the keeper. Beattie was unlucky not to score when his left foot shot hit the post with the keeper struggling to reach it. Hadden scored again five minutes from the end of the match after collecting a poor clearance from the keeper, played a one two with Beattie and shot under the keeper. Findlater went in goal to allow Dalgarno out and within one minute he scored after a defence splitting pass from Robertson. Dalgarno then completed the scoring in the final minute from a smith pass to take the score to 25-1.

Squad - Dalgarno, Brown, Cuthill, Beattie, Fullerton, Milne, McLaren, Hadden, Roberson, Findlater, Smith, Browne, Kemp.

Dee Club 2 Montrose Youth U 13s 1 (06/02/05)

Montrose started well in the opening period of this cup tie and were unlucky not to score within the first 5 minutes when Robertson played a ball over the defence to Findlater, but his shot hit the post and rebounded back to the keeper. Dee Club then set up a chance at the other end but Smith got back to clear from the attacker just as he was away to shoot.
Dee Club opened the scoring when a forward was allowed to carry on and place the ball in the corner of the net out of Simpson's reach. Montrose upped the pace but could not take advantage of the chances they were creating. Montrose continued to dominate the second half when McLaren and Milne combined to set up Brown. Brown cut inside a defender and hit a great left foot shot which was going inside the post until the keeper dived and finger tipped it round at the post. Findlater then controlled a pass from Fullerton, turned and laid the ball off for Robertson to run in and lash the ball into the top corner. Montrose were caught at the back when they played the ball along their back line and a forward dispossessed Brown and shot home to go 2-1 up. Montrose pushed forward in the remaining 5 minutes to try to get the equalizer, but despite all the pressure they only created one chance when Cuthill had his shot saved by the keeper.
Squad - Simpson, Brown, Cuthill, Fullerton, Smith, Robertson, Morton, Milne, McLaren, Dalgarno, Findlater, Worthington.

Montrose Youth U13's 1 Ferry Athletic 1 (30/01/05)

Ferry started to dominate right from the kick off and were only prevented from scoring by some last ditch tackles from Beattie, Brown, Cuthill and some good goalkeeping from Dalgarno. Montrose started to get more into the match after 15 minutes but gave away possession too easily with misplaced passes. Findlater had a chance to open the scoring but his shot was cleared off the line by a defender. Ferry took the lead in 20 minutes when the Montrose defence were caught with a ball over the top, their forward collected the pass and placed the ball into the corner of the net from 20 yards. Robertson then tested the keeper at the other end when he was put through by Milne, but the keeper saved with his feet. Montrose were caught again with a ball over the top but Dalgarno was quickly off his line to clear the danger. Montrose had another chance to equalize when McLaren was one on one with the keeper but his shot was turned round the post for a corner. Robertson met the corner perfectly and his volley looked net bound until the keeper acrobatically got a hand to it, the ball dropped and Smith smashed it into the net to level the scores. Montrose started the second half on top with Ferry still looking dangerous on the break. Ferry should have taken the lead 5 minutes into the second half when a good move ended with their forward sliding the ball past the post when it seemed easier to score. Montrose were awarded a free kick after Morton had been fouled 25 yards from goal but Cuthill shot straight at the keeper. The game continued to rage from end to end but only the final ball or bad finishing letting the teams down. The Ferry keeper pulled off another good save at the feet of Browne with 10 minutes remaining. Milne nearly won the game in the final minute when he glanced a header past the post from a Morton corner.
Squad - Dalgarno, Brown, Cuthill, Milne, Beattie, Robertson, Morton, Kemp, McLaren, Smith, Findlater, Fullerton, Hadden, Browne.

MONTROSE YOUTH U13's 1 BRECHIN CITY BOYS CLUB 0 (16/01/05)
Montrose eventually got their chance to get revenge after a 5-1 thumping from Brechin in the cup at the start of the season. The game started at a fast pace with Brechin slightly edging the possession with Montrose creeping into it as the game wore on. The first chance fell to Brechin in the fifteenth minute when a ball over the top caught the Montrose defence sleeping but Simpson was quickly off his line to clear the danger. Montrose were then awarded a corner at the other end when the keeper came out and cleared from Robertson. The corner was headed out to the edge of the box where Milne met it and his goal bound shot was tipped away by the keeper. Brechin continued to look dangerous but some great defending kept them out. As half time approached McLaren fed Findlater 18 yards out, he managed to get some space and get the shot in but the Brechin keeper blocked with his legs. Brechin had a great chance 10 minutes into the second half when their forward got put through but Cuthill got back to get the tackle in and Milne cleared the ball from the goal line. Montrose were awarded an indirect free kick inside the Brechin box, McLaren rolled the ball back for Morton who hammered the ball towards the top corner but the Brechin keeper pulled off a brilliant save when he managed to tip the shot over the bar. Play continued to go from end to end but both defences stood firm. Montrose scored 5 minutes from the end of the game when Morton hit the bar with a great shot, the ball rebounded and Findlater reacted quickest to slide the ball under the keeper and into the net. Brechin pushed forward to try and get the equalizer but the Montrose defence kept them out. This was an excellent win against a good Brechin team who had only lost one game in the league this season. Every player gave 110% but Iain Cuthill shaded the Man of the Match vote, as he was immense in defence. On the sadder note, this was Jordan Gammie's last game for the club as he is emigrating. He will be sorely missed, but we all wish him and his family the best of luck in the future.
Squad - David Simpson, Connor Brown, Iain Cuthill, Shaun Fullerton, Paul Beattie, Richey Robertson, Michael McLaren, Robert Milne, Jordan Gammie, Steven Smith, Kieran Findlater, Josh Morton, David Worthington, Jack Dalgarno, Ross Browne, Adam Kemp.

CELTIC BOYS v MONTROSE YOUTH U 13s (09/01/05)
Montrose traveled to Lochee to play a high flying Celtic team who had only lost one of their league fixtures this season. Montrose kicked off on the rain soaked pitch with the wind on their backs and had the best of the possession in the opening minutes, with only the final passes letting them down. Celtic opened the scoring in 15 minutes when a Celtic forward who was obviously offside, collected the pass and carried on and slide the ball under the advancing Dalgarno. Celtic started to dominate the game in midfield due to Montrose giving the ball away cheaply and being second to every ball. Findlater did have a good chance to equalize 5 minutes before half time when he was left with only the keeper to beat, but slid the ball past the post. 10 minutes into the second half Celtic went 2-0 up when their forward picked up a bad clearance, got to the byline and cut the ball back for their other forward to sidefoot into the net. Montrose started to push forward but never really troubled the Celtic keeper. Celtic then scored a third near the end when the referee never noticed a Celtic player behind him in an offside position, allowed the game to continue and when the ball broke out to the edge of the box a Celtic midfielders shot was deflected over Dalgarno and into the net. Overall a fair result, as Montrose never played and passed the ball as they can.
Man of the Match was split between Iain Cuthill and Conner Brown for their workrate, tackling and alertness, which prevented Celtic scoring more.
Squad - Jack Dalgarno, Steven Smith, Conner Brown, Iain Cuthill, Paul Beattie, Richey Robertson, Josh Morton, Michael McLaren, Robert Milne, Jordan Gammie, Kieran Findlater, Ross Browne, David Worthington, Adam Kemp.
